If your student recently completed 5th grade, they have officially graduated from Commission Kids and are now part of our youth ministry for students in 6th–12th grade.

At Commission Youth, our goal is simple: to help students encounter God, build meaningful friendships, and grow into mobilized followers of Jesus who impact their world.

What Is Commission Youth?

Commission Youth meets every Wednesday from 6:30–8:00 PM at Commission Church.

Opportunities to build friendships and grow in faith

Volunteer Party 7/10/26

TLDR Volunteer Appreciation Party on July 10 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Enjoy free street tacos, lawn games, and time together as a team. Stay afterward for a community fireworks show beginning at 9:30 p.m. with gates opening at 8:30 p.m.RSVP here: Every week, dozens of volunteers help make ministry happen at Commission Church. On average, 127 people attend our service on Sunday. That means 71% of our church serves in some capacity on Sunday Mornings at Commission! You welcome guests, teach kids, lead groups, serve behind the scenes, run technology, prepare spaces, and invest in people. Because of your faithfulness, lives are being impacted every week. We want to say thank you. We could not do this without you! On Friday, July 10, we’re hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Party to celebrate everyone who serves at Commission Church. First Priority: end-of-school update and celebration

First Priority is a student-led campus ministry focused on bringing the gospel into middle schools and high schools across the Kansas City area. Through weekly clubs hosted on school campuses, students are sharing testimonies, preaching the gospel, praying for their peers, and inviting friends to encounter Jesus. One of the most powerful aspects of First Priority is simple: students are reaching students. Middle school and high school students are standing up in their schools and boldly sharing their faith with their classmates. Instead of waiting for someone else to reach their generation, they are becoming missionaries in the hallways, cafeterias, classrooms, and campuses they walk through every day. Four years ago, Ps. Abram helped launch some of the first First Priority clubs in Kansas City alongside Rylee Reece, Delaney Summers, and Louise Eskina. That first school year, there were only six clubs in the entire Kansas City area. Now, by the grace of God, there are more than 40 active clubs across the city. Impact This school year alone, God has used First Priority KC in incredible ways: 40 Active Clubs 451 Active Student Leaders 1,672 Weekly Attendees across the City 543 Decisions for Christ Behind every number is a story. A student inviting a friend to club for the first time. A teenager praying publicly at school. A Bible opened during lunch. A teenager making the decision to follow Jesus. We believe schools are one of the greatest mission fields in our city, and First Priority is helping equip students to live on mission where they already are every day. At Commission Church, we are grateful to support and celebrate ministries that are reaching the next generation with the gospel. Your Next Step Pray for students across Kansas City. Prayer Service and Youth Time Change

TLDR Commission Youth and our Midweek Prayer Gathering now both meet starting at 6:30pm. We’re moving to a later time to better serve working individuals, families, and parents dropping off students for youth. Our prayer gathering is becoming a more structured and interactive experience with guided prayer, worship, and community connection. Midweek Is Changing at Commission Church Starting next Wednesday, both Commission Youth and our Midweek Prayer Gathering will meet from 6:30. For a while now, we’ve recognized that our previous 5:30pm start time created challenges for many families and working individuals trying to get across the city after work, school, practices, and dinner. We want midweek ministry to be accessible, life-giving, and realistic for the people we’re trying to serve. This adjustment creates space for more people to participate in both youth ministry and prayer together. A Better Rhythm for Families Commission Youth will continue meeting every Wednesday night, but now with an earlier start time. At the same time, we are intentionally relaunching and reshaping our Midweek Prayer Gathering into a more structured and meaningful experience. For many parents, Wednesday nights often become a drop-off and pick-up routine or a waiting period filled with unstructured dead time. We want to create an opportunity for those moments to become spiritually meaningful, too. Instead of simply waiting, parents and adults can now gather together for prayer, connection, worship, and encouragement while students are in youth service. Why Prayer Matters + A Real Story One of the things we love about prayer gatherings is how they connect real life to real faith. Alison S. is a great example of this. Many times, she has come into prayer carrying burdens from conversations she had with coworkers earlier that same day. Her coworkers know she belongs to a praying community. They know there are people who will stand with them in prayer. Many times a month, she comes with their requests because she has built a reputation for caring for her co-workers. That’s the kind of culture we want to continue building at Commission Church. A place where people know they are not alone. A place where burdens are shared. A place where faith becomes active in everyday life. FIND KIDS | CAN OUTREACH 6/6/26

Be a Light in the Darkness 6.6.26 OutreachSign up here As the World Cup approaches, our city will experience an influx of visitors from around the world. While major events bring excitement and opportunity, they also bring increased risks for human trafficking and exploitation, especially among vulnerable children and teenagers. As followers of Jesus, we cannot ignore the darkness around us. We are called to be a light in the darkness and to help set the captive free. On June 6, 2026, churches and believers from across the Kansas City area will mobilize together for a CAN outreach focused on awareness, prayer, and practical action. Teams will then go together into the community to connect with hotel clerks, truck stops, and other key locations where trafficking risks may increase during major events. Earlier this year, during a similar outreach, 10 of the 18 children featured on missing posters connected to the effort were found. Stories like these remind us that awareness matters, prayer matters, and people willing to go make a difference. We believe the Church should not retreat from darkness. We believe we are called into it, carrying the hope, love, and freedom of Jesus. The outreach will mobilize from Central Assembly in Independence, Missouri, and we would love for you to join us. Irvin Rutherford passing his missionary mantle on to the next generation.

Pastor Irvin Rutherford, a missionary for over 60 years, is passing on his mantle to the next generation. While visiting this past March, Pastor Irvin, our missionary board member, shared that after 60 years of ministering throughout the world, he's passing on the leadership of global ministry teams—GMT—to Pastor Aaron McManus over the next few years. You can watch the service where he shares this update with our congregation by clicking the button below.Watch here Brother Irvin has ministered primarily in Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines, for decades. He and his wife, Linda, traveled throughout Asia and the world, raising their kids and ministering. Now that both Irvin and Linda are growing older and are more restricted in their travel, Pastor Irvin has been training a new leader to take over his ministry. Pastor Irvin has trained and impacted the lives of 500 leaders in 83 countries worldwide. Ps. Aaron will be working with Ps. Irvin, as they prepare him to lead the continued effort around the world to preach the gospel and build up the next generation of church leaders, pastors, evangelists, and church workers across the world.

Please use the bathroom prior to leaving your house, so we don't have to stop at a gas station prior to our lunch stop in Sedalia Time: 9:00am sharp Waiver: All parents and guardians must sign a release waiver prior to departure. Make sure to check the packing list and pack one bag! Make sure to review Medicine if you need to bring meds to camp! We will eat lunch in Sedalia, MO. COST $275 per student. Please note all the resources below before we depart, so you will be best prepared to send your camper prepared to have a great week and receive all that God has in store! Ps. Please review the Money Band FAQ before departure.Money Bands FAQ PACKING ONE SUITCASE OR DUFFLE BAG PER CAMPER. Please pack the smallest suitcase possible — you will have to carry your bag to the dorm from the car, which may be a long walk. One additional small backpack, drawstring bag, or fanny pack can be brought for daily use. It must fit with the student in or below their seat in the car. Our camp has a NO PHONE policy. No camper is permitted to have a phone at camp. All communication is facilitated through our church volunteers and pastors. Safety All volunteers are screened and background checked prior to approval to work at camp. Camper safety is taken seriously and we are committed to protecting our kids. Any areas of concern will be relayed to our Camp Director, church staff, and respective parents. HOMESICKNESS We try not to allow kids to call home, as it often worsens the situation. Should we feel your child needs to call home, that will be delayed until our Camps Head Dorm Leaders (Leaders at our camp, not our church volunteers) determine that the homesickness is not manageable. Calls home often lead to early pickups, and we want our campers to make it all week and get everything God has for them. Should this happen, our head dorm leaders will contact parents with the Kids Pastor to review next steps. LICE CHECK We will conduct a lice check for each camper prior to departure for camp. EMERGENCIES In the event of an emergency, our staff will call the family in question. Please note Ps. Abram's number, as he will be the primary contact in the event of an emergency. BEHAVIOR Our camp has a list of policies to handle behavior internally. We do not desire to ever send a child home from camp and work hard to deal with any issues that arise. There is no physical or isolation-style punishment at our camp. FAQ WHAT WILL THE KIDS DO AT CAMP? SOMO Kids Camp will be filled with swimming, rock climbing, mini golf, roller skating, water games, special ministry services, and lots of other activities. HOW MANY CAMPERS ARE AT EACH CAMP? Expect between 400–600 kids. WHAT IS THE RATIO OF DORM LEADERS TO KIDS? We follow the National Standard of 1 worker per 8 children. ARE THERE LICENSED MEDICAL PERSONNEL AT CAMP? Yes. All medications must be turned in to the medical personnel and distributed through them. IS THERE A DRESS CODE AT CAMP? Yes. Clothing must be modest and appropriate. Modest swimwear is required (one-piece suits preferred). Shorts, shirts, and dresses/skirts must be an appropriately modest length. WHO ARE OUR CAMP SPEAKERS? Visit the Kids Camp homepage for a list of speakers: somoag.org/ministry/children HOW LONG DOES CAMP LAST? Camp runs from Monday at 1:00pm to Friday at 10:30am. WHAT IF A CAMPER HAS FOOD ALLERGIES? Campers with organic, health, or digestive allergies may bring their own food in a cooler to be checked in at the First Aid Station. All food must be dated and labeled. Please inform us in advance so we can ensure adequate storage. There is no tuition deduction for bringing outside food. SHOULD CAMPERS BRING MONEY? Yes. There will be a snack shop (French fries, soda, ice cream, etc.), a camp store (apparel, gifts, toys), and one missions offering taken during the week. Save the Date: KC Day of Hope

Last year, several of us helped out with the KC Day of Hope in 2025. We would love even more of us to join in the effort to bring hope to some of the people in Kansas City this coming September, on September 19th. Dozens of churches and non-profits are partnering together in collaboration with Convoy of Hope to give the residents of Kansas City a glimmer of hope in a dark world. We're going to be offering a kid zone with inflatables, a prayer tent, free haircuts and family portraits, community resources, food distribution, clothing distribution, and other activities for the Kansas City area. The sign-up to serve will be posted soon.
