TLDR

- Our property is part of our ministry: Hundreds of our South Kansas City neighbors visit our campus, including 500–1,000 voters during the August election. Caring for our property helps us provide a clean, safe, and welcoming place for our community.
Help Us Care for Our Church Home
Our church property is more than the place where we gather on Sundays. It’s one of the ways we serve and welcome our neighbors in South Kansas City.
This year, Commission Church was contracted by the Kansas City Election Board to serve as a polling location for three elections, giving our neighbors in South Kansas City and the Highview Estates neighborhood a convenient place to cast their ballots.
During the August election alone, somewhere between 500 and 1,000 people walked through our doors to vote. We expect just as many, if not more, to visit our campus for the November general election.
For some of those neighbors, it may be their first time ever stepping onto our property.
That’s one reason caring for our church home matters.
A clean, safe, and well-maintained property helps us create a welcoming environment for everyone who comes through our doors. Whether they’re attending worship, bringing their children to an event, voting, or simply living in the neighborhood around us, we want our campus to reflect the care we have for our community.
Our property is a resource God has entrusted to us, and taking care of it helps us use it as a conduit of His love to our neighbors.
This fall, there are two ways you can help.
1. Join Our Mowing Team
We’re looking for eight men who can help us care for the church grounds on a simple monthly rotation.
Our goal is to have two men serve each week:
- One person mowing a portion of the church property
- One person weed-eating a portion of the church property
- Approximately 2–3 hours of serving
- Each volunteer serves approximately once per month
With eight men sharing the responsibility, we can keep our property looking great without placing the entire workload on just a few people.
If you’re willing to give a few hours once a month, we’d love to have you on the team.
2. All Church Upkeep Day
Not interested in mowing? There are plenty of other ways to help!
On Saturday, October 10, we’re inviting our entire church family to spend a morning together caring for our campus.

Here are some of the things we have to do this fall:
- Cut down several dead trees
- Remove an old fence
- Clear our property line of invasive shrubs and trees
- Repair roof shingles
- Prepare the church for the coming winter months
There’s a job for just about everyone, so you don’t need to be particularly handy to participate.
Please sign up ahead of time. Knowing how many people are coming will help us prepare projects, supplies, and job assignments before everyone arrives.
Why It Matters
Hundreds of people who don’t regularly attend Commission Church will walk onto our property this fall.
We have an opportunity to welcome them before anyone ever says a word.
A cared-for property communicates that this place matters, the people who come here matter, and our neighborhood matters.
Whether you commit to a few hours each month on the mowing team or join us for one Saturday morning in October, you’re helping Commission Church steward what God has given us and use it to impact our world right here in South Kansas City.
