Built to Last | Briana Betthauser | Song of Solomon 5
🔥 CONFLICT DOESN’T HAVE TO DESTROY A RELATIONSHIP. HANDLED WITH HUMILITY, IT CAN ACTUALLY MAKE IT STRONGER.
Every marriage faces bad timing, misunderstandings, frustration, and conflict. The question isn’t whether conflict will come. It’s what we do when it does.
Continuing our journey through Song of Solomon, Briana explores how couples can resolve conflict, restore fellowship, and build the kind of friendship that can withstand the pressures of life.
❤️ The goal isn’t a marriage that never gets scratched. It’s a marriage built to be restored.
Using the picture of a cast iron skillet, Briana shows why healthy relationships actually become stronger through years of intentional care. Cast iron can take heat, survive wear, be restored after rust, and actually improve with time.
Marriage can work the same way.
💬 In this message:
• How criticism, contempt, and defensiveness build emotional walls
• Why deep friendship and respect matter in marriage
• How remembering what you love about your spouse changes conflict
• Why the little everyday interactions matter so much
• How to make healthy “repair attempts” after disagreements
• Why humility is essential to restoring broken fellowship
• How husbands and wives can honor and influence one another
• Why putting Jesus at the center creates a foundation that can endure
📖 Philippians 2:3–8 reminds us:
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
Jesus gives us the ultimate picture of humility and sacrificial love. If Christ has extended that kind of grace, mercy, and forgiveness to us, what would happen if we began extending it more freely to the people closest to us?
🛠️ You don’t fix it in the big. You fix it in the small.
Listen. Turn toward each other. Notice the good. Express appreciation. Repair quickly. Pray for your spouse. Invite God into the ordinary moments.
You can’t control bad timing. You can’t control every circumstance. You can’t control your spouse. But you can choose humility, intentionality, forgiveness, and love.
Whether you’re married, preparing for marriage, single, or simply trying to become healthier in your relationships, these principles can help you build deeper friendships and become more like Jesus.
